The
ABD's extensive membership of over 600 practising doctors provides a valuable
source of independent medical expertise for radio, television and the press.
It is a free service for the use of the media and the medical profession
including general practitioners, hospital doctors and consultants in all
the major specialties, from acne to zoonoses.
The Association was formed in 1988 with the help and co-operation
of the BBC and the then Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA),
the objective being to provide encouragement and opportunities for doctors
to broadcast in the interests of public health.
